Michael Haas, 47, worked at a Johns-Manville Asbestos Cement Pipe plant from 1972 to 1981 and claimed exposure to chrysotile asbestos, product defect, and negligent distribution and labeling.

Claim: living Mesothelioma; Defense: Amount of chrysotile used at the plant was not a substantial factor in the disease.

The jury found Calaveras 2.5 percent liable on negligence only. Pretrial settlements totaled about $ 1.2 million, according to a plaintiff source. Post-trial motions are pending to determine the allocation of the settlements.
